Top 5 Must Do’s For Your 2018 Business Website
This list could easily contain 20 things, but after careful deliberation by our panel of experts (me, myself, and I), and 20+ years of Website and SEO experience, here is my list of the top 5 must do’s for your business Website in 2018.
1 – SSL Certificate. Do you want Google to love your Website, and display it well in their search result screens? Than you really need to secure your Website with a Secure Socket Layer Certificate. Here’s an entire article on what the SSL is and how to quickly get one installed on your Website.
2 – Mobile Experience. By the end of 2018, close to 50 percent of all visitors to most Websites will be through a mobile device. So a must do for 2018 is to look closer at your mobile Website design. Actually, what you should be doing is asking some of your customers what they think of the ease of use of the mobile version of your Website. Don’t just assume that because your site is mobile / responsive that it’s effective. Most companies believe their sites are mobile friendly. But in reality, the mobile experience tends to be secondary and less effective than their desktop experience. Take the time, and work on the mobile version of your site. Make it an excellent user experience. Here’s a great article on responsive Web design.
3 – Website Form Test. When was the last time you tested end-to-end the forms on your Website? Most Web forms when completed provide a message saying “form successfully submitted”. That’s great, but the question is, are those form submissions actually being received by the business? If you haven’t tested your Web forms in 2018, you might be losing business. Here’s a great article about successful Website form tests.
4 – American’s With Disabilities Act (ADA) Compliance. People with disabilities do surf the Internet. They do buy your products and services. But, if they can’t navigate your Website, they could claim you’re discriminating against them. There were hundreds these discrimination type lawsuits filed in 2017, and continuing into the first two months of 2018. Do you have a Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) plan for your company Website? You should for two reasons. One, it’s the right thing for your business to do. Two, if you don’t, you could end up in Federal court. Here’s an article that discusses the implications of ADA on business Websites.
5 – Fresh New Content. Like item #1 above, do you want Google to love your Website? If the answer is yes, then you have to ask the question…“When was the last time I added any new information to my Website?” One of Google’s primary ranking algorithm requirements is “Fresh New Content”. If you really want to get serious about your Kansas City SEO efforts, then here’s a couple articles you should read about the true cost of SEO, and what Google really wants for SEO.
Here’s a bonus must have for 2018.
Selling Website. When people call your company on the phone looking for the thing you offer, AND you make a sale while talking to them, ask the question…. Why did I make that sale? What was it you said to them about your product, or service that sealed the deal? Now look at your Website’s home page. Are those sales points quick to see, and visual on your Website? People buy your service for a particular reason. Those things should be big and easy to see on your Website. It has to sell without you. I’ll be writing my next blog post dedicated to this top. So stay tuned!!
