Why This Is A Bad Web Design Idea For Your Kansas City Business
I recently read an article from a national top WordPress Web Design development think tank titled, The 15 WordPress Sites That Are Changing The Design Game.
I have to say that after reading this article that I hope this design trend quickly fades into history.
I feel it’s a very bad idea to have their type of Web Design for almost any Kansas City business. Not just business, but really any Website design effort.
The concept is called “Parallax”scrolling. This is where you put everything on one long page that just scrolls down forever. Yes there a links to other pages, but the majority of the information is presented in a highly visual changing presentation style as you scroll down the page. Here’s an example.
So why is this such a bad design idea?
Plain and simple.
When “consumers” are on the Web looking for the service or product they want to buy, these sites do not present the information quickly, or in a manner that consumers have come to expect from a Service or Product Web site.
Looking at the site above. How do I contact them? Where are they located? What services do they provide? Why should I use your service? Who else has used them. What is their credibility?
When a consumer is on the Web looking for for a service or a product, your Web site MUST, in 6 to 8 seconds convince them you have what they need. Otherwise, they are gone (use the back button)
These Parallax scrolling designs do not present information quickly. They assume, you are there enjoying the visual presentation of the information. They assume you are not in a hurry.
Do these Parallax Web Designers really know people? Do they really think people are going to just cruise around the Web site enjoying the show?
American consumers of information, services and products are part of the hurry-up-I-need-it-now Web generation.
This design style needs to fade away quickly.
The old adage, just because you can build it this way, doesn’t mean you should.
